Central Bank Of Nigeria Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment To Clean Currency Flow

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a continuous supply of clean banknotes, urging Nigerians to regard the Naira as a crucial emblem of national pride and identity, according to iReporter Online.

Speaking at the CBN Fair in Lagos on August 12, 2025, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, emphasized that the clean currency initiative is part of a broader strategy to bolster public confidence in the financial system and support economic stability, according to iReporter Online.

She appealed to the public, stating, “We urge you to see the Naira as our critical symbol of national identity. Respect and keep it clean. Do not spray, hawk, mutilate, or counterfeit the Naira.”

The two-day event, themed “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development,” provided a platform for CBN to engage with stakeholders and the public on innovative payment systems that empower SMEs and maintain price stability.

According to iReporter Online, under Governor Olayemi Cardoso’s leadership, the CBN has enacted several reforms over the past 22 months, including exchange rate unification, clearance of over $7 billion in verified FX backlog,

the introduction of the Nigeria FX Code, and bank recapitalisation to prepare the sector for a projected $1 trillion economy.

The fair also showcased microfinance initiatives, consumer protection efforts, and advancements in payment systems and foreign exchange developments, highlighting the bank’s role in driving financial inclusion and economic empowerment across Nigeria.
