Passenger Misconduct On The Rise, Aero MD Calls For Crackdown
Aero Contractors Boss Raises Alarm Over Rising Unruly Passenger Incidents
The recent surge in unruly behaviours among air passengers is a serious concern that must not be taken lightly, Capt. Ado Sanusi, Managing Director of Aero Contractors, has warned.
Speaking in an interview, he stressed that the troubling pattern of incidents is not an isolated occurrence but rather a symptom of deeper challenges within Nigeria’s aviation sector, according to Ireporter Online.
Sanusi noted that the nation’s airlines operate under extremely tight profit margins, a financial strain that also impacts aviation regulatory agencies such as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
He said this fragility leaves the industry brittle, reactive, and vulnerable to safety risks.
Citing recent cases — including a passenger being forcibly restrained for allegedly refusing to switch off her phone and individuals leveraging “celebrity status” to evade rules — the Aero Contractors chief said such events underscore systemic weaknesses.
He called for a comprehensive government-led review of the regulatory framework, stricter enforcement, and more effective oversight of airlines and service providers.
“What’s needed is not a surface fix but a holistic overhaul,” Sanusi stated, urging authorities to embed mechanisms that protect passengers’ rights equitably while holding operators accountable.
He warned that failure to address these issues could lead to more frequent disruptions and further compromise safety, according to Ireporter Online.
Sanusi emphasised that it is time to stop “papering over cracks” and to confront the root causes of the problems facing the aviation industry.
His remarks, according to Ireporter Online, serve as a wake-up call for immediate government intervention to restore stability, fairness, and safety in the sector.
