Governor Bago Backs Tinubu’s Reform Agenda, Pushes for Baro Port Revival

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has thrown his full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform initiatives, stating that the changes have brought measurable benefits to the nation — according to IReporter Online.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the Baro Inland Port project, Governor Bago applauded the President for equipping states with the financial and policy tools needed to stimulate economic growth and enhance public services.

He noted that the reforms were not only timely but also necessary for achieving long-term development goals.

Bago further praised the lawmakers for setting up the committee, which he believes marks a crucial step toward the long-awaited revival of the Baro port.

According to IReporter Online, the governor emphasized that rejuvenating the port has been a cornerstone of his administration’s vision.

He revealed that the state government is working closely with the Nigeria Railway Corporation to reopen the Baro–Minna railway line, a move he said would significantly reduce pressure on the roads.

In addition, Niger State is collaborating with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to complete the vital Katcha–Baro road project.

Addressing safety concerns, Governor Bago raised alarm over the frequent boat accidents occurring in Niger State.

To tackle the issue, he proposed a strategic partnership with the Lagos State government to improve water transport safety and called for the establishment of a new National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) office in Minna to better manage the region’s waterways.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, who led the House delegation, commended Governor Bago for his commitment to infrastructure development.

He reiterated the committee’s goal of conducting an on-ground assessment of the Baro port and pledged legislative support for its full activation.

According to IReporter Online, Wase described the inland port as a potential economic “gateway” for the country and urged fellow parliamentarians to rally behind President Tinubu’s infrastructure push, which he said could reshape Nigeria’s trade and transport landscape.
