Senator Kabir Marafa Resigns from APC, Cites Injustice and Crisis in Zamfara – According to IReporter Online

Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central from 2011 to 2019, has formally announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending a long-standing affiliation with the party.

According to IReporter Online, Marafa made his exit public via social media, attributing his decision to persistent internal crises and what he described as deep-rooted injustice within the Zamfara APC. A widely circulated post on X (formerly Twitter) stated:

“Senator Marafa left the APC primarily due to an unresolved internal party crisis in Zamfara State and his perception of injustice and bias.”

In his strongly worded resignation, Marafa declared that the “battle line has now been drawn”, signaling a definitive political shift. He did not spare former Governor Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari and ex-Governor Bello Matawalle, the current Minister of State for Defence, blaming them for contributing to the deep factional divisions in the state.

This development, according to IReporter Online, comes in the wake of years of internal strife within the APC in Zamfara—a rivalry most notably between Marafa and Yari. Their power struggle led to the Supreme Court’s nullification of the APC’s 2019 election victories due to flawed primaries.

The report also noted that the APC in Zamfara has long been marred by disunity rather than cohesiveness, making Marafa’s departure less surprising but politically significant.

Marafa, who served two terms in the National Assembly, held critical roles as Vice-Chairman and later Chairman of Senate Committees on Petroleum. He was instrumental in initiating several infrastructure projects, including the establishment of the Federal University Gusau and the opening of a Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) office in the state capital.

According to IReporter Online, Marafa has yet to declare his next political move, but his exit adds another layer to the already tense political landscape in Zamfara as the 2027 elections loom.
