The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday announced the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu. Their removal was adopted at the party’s national convention in Ibadan after a motion by former National Vice Chairman (South), Olabode George, who stressed the need to restore discipline within the party. The motion was swiftly supported by the Bauchi State PDP chairman, Hon. Samaila Buga, before being approved by the convention.

However, Adamawa State governor Ahmadu Fintiri later distanced himself from the decision, stating that he did not support Wike’s expulsion. He argued that such an action was not in the best interest of the PDP and warned that it could further deepen the party’s internal crisis.

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, in his address at the convention, expressed optimism that the gathering would mark a turning point for the PDP. He commended party members for their resilience, adding that the party had endured a long struggle to reach this stage. He encouraged attendees to enjoy their stay in Ibadan, noting that the convention symbolised a new phase for the PDP.

During the same event, the PDP also dissolved its executive structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states. Governor Makinde, who moved the motion for the dissolution, explained that although congresses had been conducted across the country between 2024 and 2025 in line with party guidelines and the Electoral Act, the five affected states required a fresh restructuring. The convention approved the dissolution and authorised its publication as official notice.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Buba Marwa, appreciated President Bola Tinubu for extending his appointment for another five-year term. Speaking through the agency’s media office, he vowed that drug cartels would face an even tougher era, urging traffickers to abandon illicit operations. He praised local and international partners and restated the agency’s commitment to reducing substance abuse nationwide.

In another development, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi criticised the Federal Government for sending 749 delegates to the COP30 climate conference despite worsening poverty levels in the country. He argued that Nigeria’s representation at global events must reflect both prudence and responsible leadership, insisting that comparisons with countries like China were unrealistic.

Entertainment circles were also thrown into controversy after comedian Princess criticised those attacking her over the release of Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha. The actor had regained freedom after an appeal court overturned his earlier conviction. In a video message, Princess maintained her stance against child molestation and remarked sarcastically that critics could take their daughters to him for Christmas. She urged authorities to publish his name on the sex offenders’ register.

Senator Ned Nwoko also confirmed the authenticity of viral medical reports indicating that actress Regina Daniels had tested positive for multiple drugs, despite the hospital’s statement clarifying that it did not release the document. He said Regina’s recent behaviour showed she was not in a stable mental state and expressed concern for her well-being and the welfare of their children.

In sports, CAF cleared Wilfred Ndidi to participate in Nigeria’s World Cup playoff against DR Congo, confirming that accumulated yellow cards from earlier qualifiers do not apply in the playoff stage. Defender Semi Ajayi, having completed his suspension, is also expected to return to the lineup as the technical crew considers adjustments to the defensive setup.

Additionally, South African Football Association president, Danny Jordan, expressed support for Nigeria ahead of the decisive World Cup playoff.
