Tinubu Unveils Powerful Committee To Enforce Nigeria’s Biggest Tax Shake-Up In Decades
According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to drive the execution of Nigeria’s newly introduced tax reforms. The committee, chaired by Joseph Tegbe and supervised by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been mandated to work closely with stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to ensure the policies are effectively enforced.
The committee’s secretary, Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, will work alongside members including Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and several experts drawn from finance, legal practice, and civil society. President Tinubu stressed that the updated tax laws are central to establishing a transparent, equitable, and modern system capable of supporting economic growth while safeguarding citizens and businesses.
Ireporter Online notes that the NTPIC will lead nationwide engagements, enhance public enlightenment, improve institutional coordination, and help close revenue gaps while strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal base. This development follows the federal government’s publication of the new tax reform laws in the official gazette, marking what authorities describe as a major restructuring of the country’s fiscal architecture.
The reforms, which the President signed into law on June 26, 2025, introduce new frameworks for taxation and revenue administration. The fiscal overhaul is anchored on four key legislations: the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) 2025, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act (NRSEA) 2025, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act (JRBEA) 2025. A statement issued in September 2025 by the President’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Kamorudeen Yusuf, explained that the reforms are designed to simplify tax processes, ease the burden on small businesses, attract investment, and strengthen fiscal stability in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on oil revenue.
