According to industry reports, Canal+, the new parent company of MultiChoice, has announced plans to discontinue Showmax, the popular African streaming service, as part of strategic cost-cutting initiatives. The decision comes after a thorough review of the company’s streaming operations aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability in a highly competitive market.

Canal+ took control of MultiChoice in September 2025 and has since implemented aggressive measures expected to save around €400 million by 2030. In a message sent to subscribers, Showmax confirmed that the discontinuation is intended to strengthen its overall digital offerings.

Current subscribers will not experience any service interruption, and the company emphasized that clear communication and a smooth transition remain a priority. Subscribers will receive advance notice of timelines and any necessary steps related to the shutdown.

The company reassured users that streaming will continue to be central to its strategy, with ongoing investments in premium content, technology, and partnerships aimed at delivering high-quality entertainment experiences.
