Werder Bremen Admit Boniface Loan Flopped, Fulham Set Sights On Chukwueze
Werder Bremen have acknowledged that their summer loan acquisition of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has not met expectations, with sporting director Clemens Fritz admitting the arrangement has fallen short.
Boniface joined Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen on a temporary deal with the aim of boosting the club’s attacking options. However, injuries and limited playing time have hampered his progress, preventing him from reaching peak form.
Fritz, speaking to a German media outlet, said the club had taken a calculated risk. “On one hand, we wanted to develop Keke, and on the other hand, we also wanted to get the good qualities that Victor definitely has,” he explained. “As things stand now, we have to say that it hasn’t worked out in that form.”
The striker has managed just two assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances, and a knee injury further clouds his prospects for the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, in England, Fulham are reportedly preparing to secure Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze on a permanent transfer. The player, who joined the London club on loan from AC Milan last summer with an option to buy, has impressed with three goals and four assists in 17 league appearances under manager Marco Silva.
Sources indicate Fulham are ready to activate the €24 million clause to make Chukwueze’s stay permanent.
