Opposition Party ADC Yet To Finalize Venue For National Convention

The disclosure was made by a party chieftain, Kola Ologbondiyan, who revealed in a post on his handle that repeated efforts to book a suitable venue had been unsuccessful. He explained that the party formally applied to use Eagle Square and also submitted a request to the office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, but received no approval or response despite acknowledgment of the letter.

Ologbondiyan further stated that attempts to secure the Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium also failed after several engagements with officials at the Ministry of Sports. He added that privately owned event centres in Abuja reportedly declined to host the convention, citing fears of possible intimidation or harassment.

Despite the setbacks, the ADC maintained that its national convention would proceed as planned in Abuja on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, insisting that the necessary notice had already been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and that members and supporters should remain assured of the event’s continuity.

The situation comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party involving rival factions aligned with former Senate President David Mark and Nafiu Bala, following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu in 2025. INEC has reportedly refused to recognise either faction pending the resolution of court cases.

The internal dispute has also drawn wider political attention, with prominent opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rauf Aregbesola recently staging a protest at INEC headquarters over concerns about what they described as the weakening of opposition parties in the country.
