Liverpool are set to conclude the 2025–2026 season without a major trophy despite committing a club-record €484 million to squad reinforcements during the summer transfer window. Those hopes were ultimately dashed following a disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League, where Liverpool were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. The English side suffered a 2-0 defeat at home in the second leg on April 14, resulting in a comprehensive 4-0 aggregate loss that effectively ended their final opportunity for silverware this season.

The club’s ambitious recruitment drive was headlined by the €144 million signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. He was joined by highly rated midfielder Florian Wirtz, who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million, and forward Hugo Ekitike, signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for €95 million.

Additional reinforcements included Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, Giovanni Leoni from Parma, goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia, and Freddie Woodman, who joined on a free transfer from Preston North End.

Despite the extensive spending, Liverpool’s domestic campaigns also fell short. Their League Cup journey ended in the round of 16 following a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, while their FA Cup hopes were crushed by a 4-0 quarter-final loss to Manchester City.
