Sokoto Governor Commends Tinubu’s Leadership, Pledges Commitment To Rule Of Law
According to Ireporter Online, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as exemplary and resilient leadership focused on national development, stability, and economic growth, stating that the President is steering Nigeria toward a more progressive path.
The governor made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Caliphate Bar Law Week in Sokoto, themed “Secured Nation, Secured Future,” where he reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to upholding the rule of law and strengthening collaboration with the legal profession.
Aliyu noted that the Bar Week represents a significant professional gathering that aligns with his government’s vision for justice reform and institutional development, adding that his administration has continued to deepen cooperation with the judiciary to improve justice delivery in the state. He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the regular promotion of judicial officers and infrastructural upgrades aimed at creating a more efficient working environment for the justice sector.
He further disclosed that the state government has recruited 14 new judges, comprising seven each for the State High Court and the Shari’ah Court of Appeal, as part of efforts to strengthen judicial capacity. According to him, additional interventions include the provision of new vehicles for judges, a N4 billion contract for the construction of a High Court complex, the rehabilitation of the Shari’ah Court of Appeal, and the construction of three new offices within the Ministry of Justice.
Speaking at the event, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), commended the synergy among the executive, legislature, and judiciary in Sokoto State, describing it as a model for effective governance and legal administration. He also praised the governor’s leadership style, noting that it reflects maturity, discipline, and a strong commitment to good governance.
Also speaking, Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, lauded the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for its role in promoting the rule of law and recognizing government efforts in strengthening the justice system. The Chairman of the occasion, Justice Mohammed Sa’idu Sifawa, also commended the NBA for its contributions to judicial development and applauded the state government’s consistent support for both the Bar and the Bench.
Similarly, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Nasiru Muhammad Binji, commended the administration for its commitment to the rule of law, fiscal responsibility, and improved welfare for justice sector workers. He noted that staff welfare in the Ministry of Justice has received prompt and sustained attention under the current administration.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association in Sokoto State, Barrister Rasheedat Muhammad, described Governor Aliyu as “the people’s governor,” highlighting his developmental strides and consistent support for the legal community. She also revealed that over 300 participants registered for the event, which featured the launch of the Caliphate Law Journal.
The governor further donated N30 million in support of the initiative and was honoured with an “Exceptional Leadership Award” in recognition of his contributions to governance and the justice sector. In his response, Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating that the honour would further encourage him to continue serving the state, the legal profession, and humanity at large.
