The development follows the circulation of a viral video showing the officer seated in the front passenger seat of a motorist’s vehicle, counting bundles of naira reportedly obtained from the driver. The motorist alleged that he was initially stopped and asked to present his vehicle documents, which he provided. Despite confirming that the papers were valid, the officer allegedly raised an issue over a supposed discrepancy in the vehicle’s colour.

The situation reportedly escalated into a negotiation, during which the officer allegedly demanded ₦30,000, later reduced to ₦10,000. The driver claimed he reluctantly parted with the amount after pleading that it was the only cash available to him.
