Hamzat Breaks Silence After Sanwo-Olu Endorses Him As Lagos’ Next Governor
The Deputy Governor of Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat, has responded to his endorsement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election. According to Ireporter Online, Hamzat expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him, reaffirming his commitment to the continued development of the state. In a statement shared on his official social media platform on Monday, the deputy governor noted that the endorsement carries significant meaning, describing it as a reflection of trust built through years of collaboration in public service. He assured residents of his dedication to sustaining and advancing the progress achieved under the current administration, emphasizing integrity, focus, and purposeful leadership.
The development follows an earlier announcement that Sanwo-Olu formally backed Hamzat after a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House in Marina. Reports indicate that the deputy governor had declared his intention to contest the governorship position before members of the State Executive Council and prominent party stakeholders. Addressing journalists after the meeting, the governor disclosed that the decision to endorse Hamzat was reached unanimously by those in attendance, citing his experience and capacity to lead the state effectively.
