Wike Reveals His Preferred Choice For 2027 Rivers Governorship Race

Concerns have continued to mount over the political future of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as the 2027 elections draw closer, with various reports circulating online alleging that Wike had backed former State Commissioner for Works, Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, following a closed-door meeting with select political stakeholders in Port Harcourt.

However, speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike firmly denied the claims, stating that no endorsement has been made for any aspirant in the forthcoming election.

He emphasised that any decision regarding candidates would only be taken after consultations within the state-level joint coalition. “I haven’t endorsed anybody. And I can’t endorse anybody until the joint coalition meets,” Wike said.

Meanwhile, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Bode George, has raised concerns over alleged political interference in the candidate selection process within both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. He warned that such developments could pose a threat to the stability of the PDP and Nigeria’s wider political landscape if not properly addressed.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, George described the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP as unprecedented, while also criticising members of Wike’s political camp for allegedly disregarding party rules and established procedures.
