Kalu Backs Tinubu, Signs APC Presidential Nomination Form

According to Ireporter Online, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has formally signed the nomination form endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the gesture as a special birthday present and a reaffirmation of his support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, made the disclosure in a statement shared via his official handle on Wednesday, noting that the endorsement came as he marked his 55th birthday on May 5, 2026. He explained that he considered it a rare privilege to append his signature to the President’s nomination form, which was presented by the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The Deputy Speaker stated that the symbolic act reflected his continued commitment to the continuity of Tinubu’s administration beyond 2027, stressing that he and other political leaders remain dedicated to supporting reforms aimed at national development and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

Kalu was quoted as saying the endorsement represented both a personal honour and a political commitment to sustaining the President’s policy direction, adding that his support was anchored on the need for continuity in governance and reform implementation.

The development comes shortly after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, also signed Tinubu’s nomination form, describing it as a “victory form” and a step toward consolidating ongoing developmental strides under the current administration. Umahi had earlier emphasized that the endorsement symbolized stability and continuity in governance.

It would be recalled that James Faleke, a close political ally of the President and founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, had earlier collected the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of Tinubu following the opening of the process by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu. The purchase of the forms, valued at N100 million, officially signalled the commencement of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
