Foundation Unveils Africa’s First-Ever Music Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony

According to Ireporter Online, the Lyrics Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation (LHMFF) has announced plans to launch Nigeria’s first-ever Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, marking a historic milestone in the celebration of African musical heritage.

The inaugural event is scheduled to hold in Lagos, Nigeria, during the week of World Music Day on June 19, 2027, at the MUSON Centre (Shell Hall). The ceremony will honour the Class of 2027, a distinguished group of Nigerian music legends recognized for their creative excellence, cultural impact, and contributions to shaping Africa’s global sound identity.

The Foundation, a non-profit organization established to preserve and promote Nigerian music history, said the initiative follows years of planning that began in 2009. It aims to bridge the country’s rich musical past with future generations through education, innovation, and cultural preservation.

Speaking on the development, the Founder of the Foundation and Executive Producer of the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame, Prince Ayodeji Adedeji, described the project as a long-awaited vision designed to create a world-class institution dedicated to safeguarding Nigeria’s musical legacy.

He noted that the planned Hall of Fame will operate both physically and digitally, ensuring the documentation and celebration of the country’s most influential music icons. According to him, the induction ceremony will be executed at international standards comparable to globally recognized platforms such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Awards.

Beyond honoring legendary performers, the event will also recognize key stakeholders across the music industry, including producers, composers, record executives, promoters, journalists, and other contributors who have played vital roles in the growth of Nigerian music. Recipients in these categories will be presented with the Nigerian Music Hall of Fame (NMHF) Medallion of Honor.

Prince Adedeji further acknowledged the importance of global recognition of Nigerian music pioneers, citing the enduring legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti as an example of international appreciation that continues to inspire generations.

The Foundation emphasized that the induction ceremony represents the highest form of recognition in the music industry, aimed at preserving legacies and celebrating excellence across Nigeria’s vibrant creative ecosystem.
