NNPP In Turmoil As Publicity Secretary Johnson Quits
According to Ireporter Online, the National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has resigned from the party amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Johnson conveyed his resignation in a letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of NNPP Ward G1, Shitta/Ogunlana Ward in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State. The letter, which surfaced on Thursday, stated that his decision takes immediate effect.
In the correspondence, Johnson formally announced his exit from the party, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various capacities, including as National Auditor and later as National Publicity Secretary. He described his time within the party’s leadership as honourable and appreciated the cooperation of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) during his tenure.
Johnson noted that his resignation was driven by his belief that the current political climate requires a broader realignment of opposition forces ahead of future elections. According to him, his political focus going forward is to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening a more unified opposition platform in the interest of national development.
While he did not disclose his next political move, party insiders reportedly suggest he may align with former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other associates within a newly emerging political structure. Sources also hinted that discussions are ongoing regarding possible roles for him within the evolving arrangement, either at the national level or in coordinating activities in the South-West region.
The development comes shortly after reports of high-profile political movements involving key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
