Brazen, Cold-Bl**ded” – Edo Government Condemns K!ll!ng At University Of Benin Gate

According to Ireporter Online, the Edo State Government has strongly condemned the killing of a young man near the main gate of the University of Benin in Benin City, describing the incident as a brazen and cold-blooded attack that undermines public safety and human dignity.

The victim was reportedly shot dead in broad daylight on Sunday by unidentified gunmen in an incident that has sparked widespread outrage. Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, in a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, expressed deep shock over the killing, describing it as “completely unacceptable” and an affront to the values his administration upholds.

The governor extended condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the deceased, noting that the victim’s life was brutally cut short in a manner that cannot be justified under any circumstance. He assured residents that the government would ensure justice is served and that those responsible would not escape accountability.

Security agencies, according to the statement, have already launched investigations into the incident, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Governor Okpebholo reiterated that “they may run, but they cannot hide forever,” emphasizing the state’s resolve to bring the attackers to justice.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating cult-related violence and other forms of violent crime across Edo State. The government noted that security operations have been intensified in flashpoint communities, leading to arrests and prosecution of suspected cultists in recent times.

The statement also highlighted ongoing collaboration between the state government and security agencies including the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Army, alongside engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations to curb criminal activities.

The administration added that it continues to support rehabilitation and reintegration programs aimed at discouraging youths from cultism and other violent behaviors. Governor Okpebholo stressed that the latest killing underscores the need for sustained efforts in tackling insecurity, urging members of the public with useful information to assist ongoing investigations while assuring confidentiality.

Reaffirming his stance, the governor declared that Edo State will not serve as a safe haven for criminals, warning that anyone involved in terrorizing innocent citizens would face the full weight of the law.
