Cooking Gas Price May Hit ₦1,500 Per KG Soon

Market checks indicate that only Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Ardova Plc and Navgas currently have substantial volumes of LPG available for sale in the domestic market.

Industry stakeholders attributed the tightening supply to increased consumption in Lagos and other parts of the country, as more households and businesses adopt cooking gas as an alternative energy source.

Current depot prices show that Dangote Petroleum Refinery is selling LPG at ₦1,060 per kilogram, while Ardova Plc and Navgas are offering the product at ₦1,065 and ₦1,085 per kilogram, respectively.

Operators in the sector have warned that if supply constraints persist, the retail price of cooking gas could climb to as high as ₦1,500 per kilogram from the prevailing average of about ₦1,300 per kilogram.

The Chief Executive Officer of Petroleumprice.ng, Olatide Jeremiah, noted that sustained demand pressure may lead to further increases in the coming days.

According to the latest report by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, domestic gas utilisation rose in March 2026, underscoring the Federal Government’s drive to expand the use of natural gas for electricity generation, industrial operations and commercial activities.

Figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission showed that domestic gas sales increased to 55,903.72 million standard cubic feet in March 2026, up from 52,300.45 million standard cubic feet in February.

The data suggests that larger volumes of gas were delivered to local consumers, particularly gas-fired power plants and industrial users, as Nigeria intensifies efforts to address electricity shortages and promote cleaner alternatives to diesel and fuel oil.

The report further revealed that the country utilised 224,935.06 million standard cubic feet out of the 240,510.62 million standard cubic feet produced in March, representing a utilisation rate of 93.5 percent.
