According to reports, the actor passed away on Monday at a hospital in Lagos after quietly battling the illness for an extended period.

Reacting to the development, Blessing CEO took to her Instagram page to express grief and outrage over the disease believed to have claimed the actor’s life. Sharing a photo of Alex Ekubo, she wrote, “God will punish cancer. We waited for you to show up. You fought silently. Rest in peace.”

Her reaction drew renewed attention because of her own controversial claims earlier this year that she was undergoing treatment for stage 4 breast cancer.

In March 2026, Blessing CEO publicly appealed to Nigerians for financial support, stating that she was receiving chemotherapy and sharing what she described as medical documentation to back her request.

The claim later sparked widespread controversy after the Nigerian Medical Association alleged that the medical report she shared had been altered from another patient’s original document.

The association said the report was traced to Xinus Medical Diagnostics and bore the signature of consultant pathologist Dr. O.A. Odigwe.

The allegations prompted questions about the authenticity of Blessing CEO’s health claims and triggered intense debate across social media.

Social media activist VeryDarkMan subsequently petitioned the Nigeria Police Force, requesting a formal investigation into the matter. Reports indicated that the petition received approval from the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
