Genevieve Nnaji Makes Powerful Screen Comeback In BBC Studios Drama Series Wahala
According to Ireporter Online, acclaimed Nollywood actress and filmmaker Genevieve Nnaji is set to make her highly anticipated return to the screen in Wahala, a six-part drama series produced by BBC Studios.
The series, adapted from Nikki May’s debut novel of the same title, is written by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko and will premiere on BBC iPlayer as well as air on BBC One.
BBC Studios officially confirmed the casting via Instagram, unveiling a star-studded female-led ensemble that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, Susan Wokoma, and Genevieve Nnaji.
Wahala follows the lives of four Nigerian-British women based in contemporary London as they navigate complex themes of friendship, ambition, love, and family, while also confronting long-buried secrets from their past. The storyline centres on close friends Simi, Boo, and Ronke—played by Adedayo, Jumbo, and Wokoma—whose relationship is shaken by the arrival of Isobel, portrayed by Ayorinde.
The drama explores betrayal, hidden truths, and the lasting consequences of secrets that refuse to stay buried, according to production notes.
Nnaji’s role marks one of her most significant on-screen appearances in recent years, sparking renewed excitement among fans. The award-winning actress last gained international acclaim for her 2018 directorial debut Lionheart, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and later became the first Nigerian film acquired by Netflix in 2019.
Since then, she has maintained a relatively low public profile, making her return in Wahala a major talking point in the entertainment industry.
