According to reports, Tambuwal, widely regarded as the leader of the ADC in Sokoto State, voluntarily relinquished the party’s senatorial ticket to former Commissioner for Finance, Faruk Malami-Yabo.

Speaking during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday, Tambuwal described Malami-Yabo as a dedicated, competent and visionary leader capable of advancing the party’s ideals and uniting the people of Sokoto South.

He stated that the moment had come for experienced politicians to intentionally step aside and create space for fresh perspectives and new ideas in Nigeria’s political landscape. Tambuwal emphasized that leadership should not be defined solely by personal ambition, but by service, continuity and the deliberate preparation of others to assume greater responsibilities.

Expressing confidence in Malami-Yabo, the former governor said he believed the former finance commissioner possesses the capacity to provide purposeful leadership and foster greater development across the district.

In his response, Malami-Yabo expressed appreciation for the endorsement, describing Tambuwal as a political mentor, a unifying figure and a symbol of selfless leadership. He pledged to uphold the principles of inclusiveness, accountability and people-focused governance if elected.

Confirming the development, the Sokoto State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Lamir Aminu, said Tambuwal made the sacrifice in the interest of peace, stability and internal democracy within the party.

He noted that the ADC leadership in Sokoto is committed to creating opportunities for younger politicians to contest elective positions, adding that the party has also allocated most of its House of Representatives tickets in the state to youthful candidates as part of its broader strategy to groom a new generation of leaders.
