Ayo Makun Urges Mutual Responsibility In Relationships Amid Rising Social Media Conflicts
According to Ireporter Online, comedian Ayo Makun has drawn attention to what he describes as a growing tendency in society to take sides in conflicts without fully understanding the root causes. He noted that in many relationship disputes, public opinion is often shaped quickly, with little effort to examine what truly led to the breakdown.
In a post shared on X, Makun stated that while emotional neglect and betrayal are both deeply painful experiences, neither should be used to excuse or justify the other. He emphasized that relationships are more likely to survive when both individuals accept responsibility for their actions rather than shifting blame or turning private disagreements into public disputes.
He further observed that this pattern has become more common in the social media era, where complex issues are often simplified into “heroes and villains,” particularly when public figures are involved. According to him, this oversimplification discourages meaningful understanding and resolution.
Makun called for greater reflection and balance, stressing that most relationship breakdowns require both sides to acknowledge their contributions to the conflict. He maintained that accountability, when shared, offers a better path to resolution than blame games amplified online.
Quoting his post, he said: “We have normalised choosing sides so much that we no longer ask what truly went wrong. Emotional neglect is painful. Betrayal is painful too. One hurt should not automatically become justification for another. Maybe relationships would survive more if accountability was shared instead of outsourced.”
