Ohagwu Takes Over From Lawal As Ondo Police Commissioner

According to Ireporter Online, the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the assumption of duty of Felix Ohagwu as the 47th Commissioner of Police in the state.

Ohagwu succeeds Adebowale Lawal following his deployment by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as part of broader efforts to strengthen internal security operations and enhance policing effectiveness nationwide.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, noting that the deployment aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving crime prevention and public safety.

The statement described Ohagwu as a seasoned officer with over 30 years of professional experience, having served in various investigative, operational, and administrative roles across different parts of the country. His wealth of experience, the Command noted, is expected to contribute significantly to sustaining peace, strengthening security architecture, and boosting public confidence in Ondo State.

Upon assuming office, Ohagwu pledged to build on existing security frameworks while prioritising the protection of lives and property. He said his leadership would focus on proactive policing, enhanced intelligence gathering, and stronger community engagement in collaboration with sister security agencies.

He further emphasised that policing under his command would be guided by professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights, assuring residents of a more transparent and people-centred security approach.

Ohagwu also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the confidence reposed in him, while commending his predecessor, Adebowale Lawal, for his contributions to peace and stability in Ondo State.

He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to support the police with timely and useful information, stressing that effective security delivery depends on strong public cooperation.
