According to reports, the Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has detained several officers attached to the Ohaukwu Police Division over their alleged involvement in the assault of a civilian in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, attracted widespread public attention after photographs showing the victim’s injuries circulated across social media platforms.

The allegations gained further traction following a viral post on X by a user identified as @martins_nwede, who accused a police officer, Kingsley Esheya, of carrying out the assault. The post called for accountability, alleging that efforts were being made to conceal the incident.

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday that the officers linked to the incident had been identified, detained, and transferred to the Ebonyi State Police Command headquarters.

He stated that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary measures based on the outcome of the investigation.

The command further confirmed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while extending wishes for a speedy recovery.

The police assured residents that the investigation would be conducted transparently, fairly, and in accordance with due process. It also reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism, accountability, and the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens, stressing that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward police brutality and all forms of misconduct.
