Two Notorious Terrorist Commanders Surrender To Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has announced the surrender of two high-ranking terrorist commanders to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, describing the development as another significant milestone in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the two commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026.

The statement disclosed that the surrendered suspects were transported to Maiduguri on July 5 and are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing comprehensive profiling, debriefing and intelligence analysis.

Military authorities revealed that preliminary interrogations indicate the two commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operations, command structure and logistics network.

The Army noted that intelligence gathered from the ongoing debriefing has already provided valuable information on the terrorists’ operational strategies, supply chains and support systems. It added that the intelligence is expected to strengthen ongoing operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling the remaining terrorist hideouts across the North-East.

The military described the surrender as a major setback for the terrorist group, attributing it to the sustained offensive operations carried out by Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with security partners. It stated that coordinated ground and air offensives, supported by enhanced intelligence efforts, have continued to restrict the movement of insurgents, weaken their fighting capacity and dismantle their command structures.

According to the statement, the sustained military pressure has made it increasingly difficult for terrorist leaders and fighters to continue their activities, forcing many to abandon the insurgency and surrender to government forces.

The Army further maintained that the latest surrender reflects the growing disintegration of the terrorist network and demonstrates the cumulative impact of ongoing military operations in the theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the offensive against terrorist elements, stressing that troops will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders until all insurgents are either neutralised or compelled to surrender, with the ultimate goal of restoring lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
