FCT Police Reacts To Viral Kidney-Selling Allegation In Nyanya

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that youths in the Nyanya area of Abuja were selling their kidneys for money.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, described the reports as false and clarified that the police had neither received nor verified any complaint relating to the alleged kidney sales.

Adeh made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, following social media publications claiming that the FCT Police Command had confirmed reports of young residents in Nyanya selling their kidneys to raise money.

The reports further alleged that an agent operating in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was involved in purchasing the organs from the youths.

According to Adeh, the police have no record of such a report and no official communication confirming the allegation has been issued by the command.

She said, “The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature. No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command.”

The police spokesperson urged residents to disregard the circulating reports and avoid sharing unverified information capable of creating fear, panic and unnecessary tension within the community.

She also encouraged members of the public who have credible information concerning alleged human organ trafficking or other security-related activities in the FCT to report promptly to the nearest police station.
