Terrorists Only Understand Defeat” — Bianca Ojukwu Issues Strong Warning

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has declared that the Federal Government has no intention of negotiating or mediating with terrorists as Nigeria intensifies its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

According to Ireporter Online, the minister made the disclosure while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu explained that Nigeria’s approach to terrorism does not involve negotiations with terrorist groups, stressing that the government believes decisive security action remains necessary to defeat the threat.

She said the African Union meeting provided an opportunity for Nigeria to engage other African countries on issues surrounding conflict prevention, terrorism, violent extremism and the promotion of peace across the continent.

The minister noted that Nigeria used the summit to communicate its position on terrorism and regional security while reaffirming the country’s determination to confront security threats.

According to her, terrorists cannot be persuaded through conventional negotiation or mediation because they do not respond to appeals based on reason, compassion or conscience.

She maintained that a firm security response remains the most effective approach to dealing with terrorist organisations.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu stressed that Nigeria would remain resolute in its campaign against terrorism and would not adopt what she described as a lenient approach toward those threatening the nation’s security.

She further explained that Nigeria’s delegation attended the summit to present President Bola Tinubu’s position on the need to defeat terrorism and strengthen regional security cooperation, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing the President at the meeting.

The minister’s remarks reinforce the Federal Government’s stated position that military and security measures, rather than negotiations with terrorist groups, should remain central to Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
