Carter Efe Reveals Why He Stopped Relationship Content With Former Partner
Nigerian skitmaker and content creator Carter Efe has opened up about his decision to stop producing relationship-focused content with his former girlfriend, saying he did not want his career and personal brand to become dependent on another person.
According to reports, the comedian made the revelation during a recent episode of Cocktails & Takeaways, where he discussed his experience creating relationship content and the challenges he encountered behind the scenes.
Carter Efe explained that his content had become so closely associated with his relationship that there were times he struggled to create videos whenever his former girlfriend was not around.
He said he eventually realised that tying his career to another person could limit his growth and make his professional identity dependent on the presence of his partner.
The skitmaker said he therefore decided to establish his own identity and brand rather than continue building content around the relationship.
“I’m a smart boy. God gave me brain. I know say this thing go take my life. There was a time I could not do content if I don’t see my woman. If I don’t see my woman, I cannot shoot content. You don’t have to attach me to anyone. Like don’t attach my glory also to someone else,” he said.
Carter Efe also disclosed that producing the relationship-themed videos often came after disagreements between him and his former partner, describing the situation behind the camera as emotionally draining.
According to him, the pair sometimes argued and cried before eventually appearing in front of the camera to create content that would later attract thousands of comments from fans praising their relationship.
“Do you know how many times I’ll cry before we shoot? We’ll fight, fight, fight before we start content, before we even shoot, before we face camera. We will now do post then a lot of people will now be saying love, love, love, love. Four thousand comments, five thousand comments,” he said.
The comedian said the pressure eventually began to affect his mental health, as disagreements over what content to produce continued behind the scenes despite the positive reception from their audience.
“I was tired because behind scene is crazy. Your mental health is going. The woman will be saying she does not want this, you will be saying you want this, she will be saying no, this is the right one. Issue,” he added.
Carter Efe stressed that he did not believe it was sustainable to continue presenting an image of a perfect relationship to fans when the reality behind the scenes was different.
“But for real, is that what we want to do for years? No, you can’t deceive people for years,” he said.
