17 Federal Lawmakers Defect From ADC To NDC
At least 17 members of the House of Representatives have reportedly left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), in a major political realignment that was formally announced on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session.
According to Ireporter Online, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, read out the official notices of defection submitted by the lawmakers, confirming their departure from the ADC to the NDC. During the same sitting, he also announced the defection of Leke Abejide from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further reshaping the party composition in the lower chamber.
The lawmakers who moved to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike, among others such as Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
In a related development, Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central, has stated that internal imbalance within the ADC coalition contributed to the exit of former presidential candidate Peter Obi from the party. Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television’s “Prime Time” programme, Umeh maintained that there were indications Obi would not secure the party’s presidential ticket. He further noted that Obi, alongside former Kano State Governor, had recently moved from the ADC to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
