2024-2025 NPFL Matchday 1: Rescheduled Fixtures and Kick-Off Times
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has officially rescheduled all Matchday 1 fixtures for the 2024-2025 season. These changes are due to the Super Eagles’ 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic, set to take place in Uyo on Saturday, September 7. The NPFL fixtures have now been shifted to Sunday, September 8, and Monday, September 9, allowing fans to enjoy both the national team’s match and the local league action.
The Reigning Champions Return
Enugu Rangers, the reigning NPFL champions, kicked off the season against newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors, who also secured the President Cup title. The opener, held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on August 31, ended in a goalless draw, disappointing the home crowd.
Upcoming Matchday 1 Highlights
One of the most anticipated fixtures is the clash between Enyimba of Aba and newly registered Heartland FC of Owerri. Another key matchup to watch is Rivers United, coached by Finidi George, facing off against Bendel Insurance. Bendel Insurance had an unbeaten run during the abridged 2023 season but struggled in the playoffs. Fans are eager to see if they can bounce back this year.
