24-Year-Old Arrested In Anambra For Orchestrating Friend’s Kidnap, Collecting N5.3m Ransom

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old man, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly plotting the abduction of his own friend and collecting a ransom equivalent to N5.3 million.

According to police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was arrested by operatives attached to the Uli Divisional Headquarters last Friday. Preliminary investigations revealed that Victor conspired with a gang to kidnap his friend under the guise of taking him to meet another acquaintance.

In an attempt to avoid suspicion, Victor pretended to have also fallen victim to the gang. However, investigations uncovered his role in planning the crime and sharing in the ransom paid by the victim’s family before securing his release.

Ikenga disclosed that Victor confessed during interrogation and is now cooperating with authorities to help track down his accomplices. He is expected to face charges upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu have arrested ten suspects linked to a separate kidnap and murder case in Nimo. A prominent elder in the community was abducted from his farm on June 23. Despite his family paying a N15 million ransom, the victim’s body was later discovered near a piggery.

Ikenga confirmed that the suspects are undergoing interrogation and that further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses. The command reiterated its commitment to enhancing security across Anambra State.
