Kwara North Senatorial District. With his kind-heartedness and humility, he has been instrumental in transforming the lives of his constituents and Nigerians as a whole.
Born on June 8, 1970, in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, Suleiman, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2019. His exemplary service, remarkable performance, and unwavering integrity have established him as one of the most experienced and respected senators in the legislature.
During his tenure in the 9th Senate, he served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care and Communicable Diseases, and was involved in several other committees. His remarkable patriotism and relentless commitment to executing transformative projects have positively influenced economic activities and enhanced the living standards in his constituency, solidifying his reputation as a champion of infrastructural development.
Suleiman has been a catalyst for positive change, consistently working to improve the well-being of his constituents. His Free Medical Outreach program has proved invaluable for communities grappling with acute health challenges such as diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory issues. By delivering healthcare services directly to the people, he has worked to improve health outcomes across numerous local government councils, including Baruten, Kaiama, Edu, Patigi, and Moro.
His dedication did not go unrecognized; in 2023, Senator Umar was re-elected to the 10th Senate, assuming the role of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment while participating in various other committees, including Appropriation, Power, Finance, and Defence. Known for his people-focused approach, his significant projects cover education, health, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
As a distinguished fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy and other professional organizations, Senator Umar has continually demonstrated his devotion to the welfare of his constituents. His humanitarian efforts have provided hope to communities impacted by disasters. His visit to the Gbajibo community in Kaiama, where many lives were lost, showcased his empathy and commitment to supporting those in distress through cash donations and essential supplies.
His vision and collaboration have led to critical infrastructural advancements in Kwara North, resulting in vital road projects that have enhanced connectivity and economic growth for the region. Recent constructions include the 130km Bode Saadu-Kaiama-Kosubosu road, among others, significantly contributing to trade and mobility.
Furthermore, Umar’s initiatives in agricultural development have supported over 1,500 agripreneurs, carving a path for Kwara State to harness its agricultural potential and emerge as a valuable player in Nigeria’s economy. His dedication to healthcare has also benefitted over 2,000 vulnerable constituents, including women and children, alongside facilitating the improvement of healthcare facilities.
In addition to these achievements, he has endorsed scholarship programs, established schools and hospitals, and provided essential empowerment tools such as motorcycles and vehicles to aid his constituency’s growth.
As a skilled pharmacist and member of the ECOWAS Parliament, he has been pivotal in combatting drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria, advocating for increased funding for law enforcement and collaborating with civil society groups. As the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, his efforts have made him a recognized champion in this crucial battle.
Senator Umar’s influence extends beyond his legislative work; he plays a vital role as a grassroots mobilizer and loyal supporter of the APC, contributing to the party’s growth and electoral successes in Kwara North.
