Abia State Adopts Renewable Energy Strategy For Sustainable Power
Abia State is advancing its energy sector by embracing renewable sources to ensure widespread electricity access. During the Off Grid Energy Stakeholders Workshop held in Umuahia, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday, highlighted the state’s commitment to achieving international standards in energy provision.
The workshop aimed to establish a robust regulatory framework for off-grid energy systems, supported by international expertise from India and Germany. The initiative follows the Electricity Act of 2023, which empowers states to regulate their electricity sectors. The state government is also developing comprehensive electricity legislation to cover all aspects of the energy market.
Special Adviser on Energy, Kachi Etuluo, noted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Abia’s energy infrastructure and meet the promises made by Governor Alex Otti.
