The strike, declared by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of academic and non-academic staff unions, follows the expiration of a seven-day warning strike that lasted from February 27 to March 10, 2025.

In a communiqué signed by JAC Chairperson Comrade Maryam Abdullahi and Secretary Comrade Musa Yakubu, the unions directed all members to cease work starting Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

“JAC is directing all its members to embark on an indefinite strike action starting from 11th March 2025 until further notice. Members are to ensure full compliance with this directive,” the statement read.

The unions are protesting their exclusion from the minimum wage increase and are demanding the reinstatement of their members under the tertiary institutions’ salary structure. Additionally, they seek full implementation of the new minimum wage and an end to salary deductions under the pretext of taxation.

The strike is expected to disrupt academic activities in various institutions, including colleges of education, polytechnics, and health sciences schools.

The Adamawa State government has yet to officially respond to the unions’ demands.
