The case, filed at the Federal High Court in Lafia, also lists the Nasarawa State Police Command as a respondent. The lawsuit stems from claims that Nalaraba’s two mobile phones were confiscated and that he was unlawfully detained during a court session.

During the hearing, Nalaraba’s legal representative, Abubakar Dogara Esq, informed the court about ongoing attempts to serve legal documents on the respondents, a fact acknowledged by Justice Shama’s lawyer, Yahaya Dangana Esq.

Dogara stated that on February 5, 2025, his client was present in court for legal proceedings when Justice Shama allegedly ordered his detention and the seizure of his phones following a dispute over recording court proceedings.

“There was an arrest even from the bar while he was fully robed as a lawyer,” Dogara said. He further claimed that Nalaraba was detained overnight at the Doma Police Division and was only released after surrendering his two phones.

The court has adjourned the case until April 29 for hearing.
