ADC Crisis Worsens: Court Blocks Adamawa Congresses
A High Court in Adamawa State has ordered the suspension of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) congresses in the state. The planned meetings, which were to take place at ward, local government, and state levels, have been put on hold following the court’s directive.
The order was issued by Justice Ahmed Isah of High Court No. 6, Yola, pending the determination of a substantive suit before the court. The case has been scheduled for hearing on April 15.
The suit was filed by ADC State Chairman Yohanna Shehu, who is contesting his reported exclusion from the congress planning process. Shehu described the arrangements as contrary to democratic principles and questioned the legitimacy of the procedures coordinated by a state transition committee led by Sadiq Dasin.
The committee’s role in organising the congresses has sparked controversy within the party, with some stakeholders expressing strong opposition. Reacting to the court’s ruling, Shehu insisted that the process lacked transparency and inclusiveness, asking, “How can you plan the congresses of a party without due consultation with the state chairman?”
According to political observers, the court’s intervention effectively halts ADC’s internal electoral process in Adamawa State until the outcome of the case is determined.
