Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has emphasized that the public disclosure of the state’s budgetary performance reflects a strong commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

According to iReporter Online, Rasheed described the criticism from opposition parties as “laziness and lack of initiative,” highlighting that any government openly publishing its revenue and expenditure demonstrates honesty and responsibility to its citizens.

He pointed out, “For instance, when Governor Adeleke stated that security expenditures follow due process, the details were clearly laid out in the budgetary performance report with proper categorization.

This shows that all security-related expenses are fully documented and accounted for,” as noted according to iReporter Online.

Rasheed clarified that Osun State does not operate “security votes” as traditionally understood in Nigeria—meaning unaccountable slush funds. Instead, every security-related expense is governed by public finance regulations.

He explained, “The scale of spending depends on inflation, operational needs of security agencies, exchange rate fluctuations, communal clashes, expansion of Amotekun, and other initiatives.

What matters most is that the government publishes these expenditures to ensure accountability,” reiterated according to iReporter Online.

He also stressed that anyone seeking further details can access them via the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, warning against spreading false narratives based on publicly available budget reports.

“A government that has something to hide would never publish its expenditure details or participate in the World Bank–monitored open budget initiative,” Rasheed added.

He concluded by affirming that Governor Adeleke has set a high standard for financial discipline, stating, “In Nigeria today, Adeleke is among the few governors managing security-related spending strictly within the legal framework of public finance.

No misinformation campaign by the Osun APC can change that fact.”
