“Election Fever Grips Ibadan North: Roads Closed As Voters Pick Their Next Rep!”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct a bye-election on Saturday, August 16, 2025, to fill the vacant Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The vacancy arose following the unfortunate passing of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, also known as Jagaban, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who died on July 10, 2024, at the age of 51.

According to iReporter Online, the bye-election will be held across the 12 wards and 512 polling units that make up the constituency.

Five political parties will participate in the election, each fielding a candidate.

These candidates—Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu (ADC), Adewale Haastrup Olatunji (APC), Olabisi Olajumoke Odususi (APGA), Fola Sunday Oyekunle (PDP), and Hammed Badmus (ZLP)—have all signed a peace accord during the week at the Oyo State INEC headquarters, pledging to conduct themselves peacefully during the exercise.

INEC Commissioner, Dr. Tella Adeniran, disclosed that 2,062 polling officials have been mobilized for the election. He added that out of 272,196 registered voters, 217,980 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to iReporter Online, voting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., after which counting and collation will begin.

According to iReporter Online, there will also be restrictions on vehicular movement in key areas of the constituency to ensure security and smooth conduct of the polls. Affected routes include Agbowo/UI, Agbowo/Expressway, Beere/Oje/Odoye, Mokola/Adamasingba, Sango/Eleyele, Apete/Ijokodo, Gate/Basorun/Ashi, Samonda/Bodija/Ikolaba, and Yemetu/Inalende.
