Akpabio Reportedly Hospitalised In London After Sudden Health Emergency

According to Ireporter Online, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, is reportedly receiving urgent medical treatment in London, United Kingdom, after being taken out of the country on health grounds earlier this month.

Sources within the National Assembly disclosed that the Senate President was said to have collapsed around December 10 and was subsequently flown to London aboard a private jet for immediate medical attention. The development has reportedly kept him away from official duties, including the crucial interactive session on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the Fiscal Strategy Paper held on Wednesday.

Akpabio’s absence was noticeable at the MTEF/FSP engagement, which outlines Nigeria’s medium-term fiscal direction. In his stead, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi was delegated to represent the Senate President at the event.

Legislative sources further indicated that this is not the first time Akpabio has reportedly sought medical treatment in London, a situation that has sparked renewed concerns over his health and ability to continue leading the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

It was also gathered that his condition is considered serious enough to require continued overseas care, with several senators said to have travelled to London to check on his wellbeing.

According to information made available to Ireporter Online, medical experts attending to the Senate President have reportedly advised him to step aside from his duties to focus fully on his recovery.

Akpabio was last seen in public on December 9, when the Senate approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request for the deployment of Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin.
