Allegations of Corruption Rock Edo State: Governor Obaseki Accused of Squandering 11.1 Billion Naira and Diverting Rice Aid

Edo State, August 2, 2024 — Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration is facing intense scrutiny following shocking allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement. According to the APC New Media Directorate, a staggering 11.1 billion naira in federal allocations for June 2024 has allegedly been squandered, with no discernible development outcomes to show.

This massive sum was intended for key projects and services but appears to have been misappropriated, leaving the state with little to show for it. Reports further accuse Obaseki of diverting 20 trucks of rice, meant for Edo State’s most vulnerable citizens across its 18 local government areas. Evidence suggests these essential supplies were hidden rather than distributed, raising serious concerns about the administration’s commitment to public welfare.

In a disturbing twist, it is also alleged that over 500 million naira was spent on political sabotage. The funds are reportedly used to sponsor protests, involving hoodlums to vandalize APC billboards and destroy properties. This alleged political maneuvering is viewed as an attempt to undermine the APC’s campaign and incite chaos, revealing a troubling use of state resources for personal gain.

These revelations paint a grim picture of Obaseki’s governance, marked by misuse of funds and dubious spending practices. The allegations also suggest a broader agenda to support Asue Ighodalo, the PDP flag bearer, through nepotistic and manipulative tactics.

The APC New Media Directorate has condemned Obaseki’s actions, calling for immediate accountability and a shift towards transparent and responsible leadership in Edo State. The Directorate emphasizes the need for a government that truly serves the public’s interests and restores integrity to the state’s governance.

The APC New Media Directorate vows to continue exposing these issues and advocating for the necessary changes in Edo State’s leadership.
