The Ministry urged the public to disregard the fake list of nominees and reaffirmed that official announcements would be made through proper channels. “The purported list should be discountenanced,” the statement read.

Currently, Nigeria operates 109 diplomatic missions, including 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates worldwide. In September 2023, President Bola Tinubu recalled all ambassadors, both career and non-career, as part of a diplomatic restructuring effort. The recalled envoys were instructed to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023.

This development affected 41 non-career ambassadors and 42 career diplomats appointed during previous administrations. The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to ensuring clear communication on such critical matters.
