Another ADC Lawmaker Switches Allegiance To NDC
The Minority Whip of the Senate, Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District, has formally defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), further reshaping the opposition landscape in the upper chamber.
According to Ireporter Online, the development was made public on Wednesday through a letter addressed to the Senate and read during plenary by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. In the correspondence, Nwoye cited deepening internal crises and protracted legal disputes within the ADC as the primary reasons behind his decision to exit the party.
He noted that persistent divisions, alongside multiple court cases at the Federal High Court and recent judicial pronouncements, have significantly undermined the cohesion and stability of the party, making it difficult to sustain a united front.
The latest defection comes barely 24 hours after Senators Victor Umeh and Rufai Hanga also switched allegiance to the NDC, signaling a growing momentum for the party within the Senate.
With Nwoye’s move, the NDC’s presence in the Red Chamber has increased to four senators, including former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, who currently leads the party’s caucus.
Despite the wave of defections, the ADC still retains seven senators, preserving its status as the leading opposition party in the Senate, while the Peoples Democratic Party holds five seats.
