Another Poll Shows Obi Leads Atiku, Tinubu, Kwankwaso

According to an opinion poll conducted by Nextier, a multi-competency advisory firm, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is tipped to win the 2023 election if it were held today.

The survey, which was conducted in rural communities, interviewed 2,000 Nigerian registered voters from 12 states spread across six geopolitical zones. According to the Nextier survey team, the home states of the leading presidential and vice-presidential candidates were excluded.

According to the poll, Mr Obi, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party will compete for the presidency (PDP). Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is not popular in Nigeria’s northwest, particularly in his home state of Kano.

According to the poll results, Mr Obi has a 40.37 percent lead in rural communities. Mr Abubakar comes in second with 26.7 percent, followed by Mr Tinubu with 20.47 percent.

According to the report, the LP candidate has the highest net favorability at 30%.

“Atiku Abubakar has 17.3%, Bola Tinubu has 4.98 percent, and Kwankwaso has -8.70 percent.”

According to the survey, respondents with no educational attainments or those who chose not to disclose their educational status prefer Mr Abubakar and Mr Tinubu.

With less than 100 days until the election, eight out of ten respondents are certain that nothing will persuade them to vote for a different candidate. According to the survey, radio, social media, and family/friends are the primary channels through which people learn about the various presidential candidates.

Approximately 76.2 percent of Nigerians polled believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, citing insecurity, poor governance, unemployment, a weak economy, and poverty as the most pressing issues that must be addressed immediately.

In the North-central, the organization said it visited Benue and Nasarawa states and discovered that 59.8 percent of people have decided to vote for Mr Obi. Around 18% have said they will vote for Mr Abubakar, 16.4% for Mr Tinubu, and 5.1% are undecided.

In the North-east, 50.3 percent of respondents said they will vote for the PDP candidate, 27.2 percent for the APC candidate, and 14.6% for the NNPP candidate. Only 5.8 percent of people polled in the North-east said they would vote for Mr Obi.

Similarly, in the North-West, Mr Abubakar received 59.8 percent of the vote, followed by Mr Tinubu (25.4 percent), Mr Kwankwaso (12.6%), and Mr Obi (0.6%).

However, the results show that approximately 67% of respondents in the South-South will vote for Mr Obi, while another 11% will vote for Mr Abubakar. 10.7% said they would vote for Mr Tinubu, while 9.8% were still undecided.

In the southeast, as expected, 94% of respondents said Mr Obi is their preferred candidate, while only 2.8% said they will vote for Mr Abubakar. Mr Tinubu and Mr Kwankwaso receive 0.6% and 0.3%, respectively.

Mr Tinubu leads with 37.4% of the vote in the South-West, followed by Mr Obi (24%), Mr Abubakar (16.5%), and Mr Kwankwaso (2.3%).

Mr Obi had the highest level of preference across all age groups, closely followed by Mr Abubakar. Mr Abubakar, on the other hand, has the highest preference among Muslim faithful, whereas Mr Obi is preferred by respondents who self-identify as religious or not.

According to the poll results, Mr Obi is the preferred candidate of the demographic with high educational attainments. Furthermore, while Mr Abubakar is preferred by respondents who did not disclose their employment status (“blanks”), Mr Obi is preferred by respondents from the majority of employment groups.
