Arewa Think Tank Cheers Tinubu’s Military Move
The Arewa Think Tank, a group from the North, has expressed its enthusiasm over President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the military to end banditry by 2025…READ MORE…
Muhammad Yakubu, the convener of the group, stated that the President’s order is a positive move that has renewed faith in the current administration’s capability to address insecurity.
According to Yakubu, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, revealed that Tinubu had instructed the military to ensure the eradication of banditry by next year.
“We are pleased to learn that Matawalle shared with All Progressives Congress (APC) members at his residence in Gusau about Tinubu’s directive and assured that the military would fully comply with the President’s order,” Yakubu said in a statement released in Kaduna on Monday.
Yakubu characterized the President’s instruction as a demonstration of his commitment to combating banditry, kidnapping, and overall insecurity in the nation.
He also praised the President for not politicizing the security issue, highlighting that the directive to the military clearly shows his determination to confront the challenges directly.
“This announcement coincides with the President’s significant decision to allocate the largest portion of the 2025 budget to defense, and we commend him for this initiative,” he added.
Yakubu expressed confidence that the Federal Government would make the necessary arrangements to deploy additional troops and military equipment to the North-West and other troubled regions across the country.
However, he cautioned that the success of the President’s directive hinges on the military’s ability to address the issue of informants aiding the bandits.
“We urge the Federal Government and military leadership to confront the problem of informants supporting the bandits so that President Tinubu’s directive will not be ineffective. The primary challenge now is to win the war against banditry nationwide,” he stated.
Yakubu also urged politicians to refrain from intertwining politics with security matters, stating that such actions could hinder the military’s effectiveness.
“We believe that some informants are community members betraying their principles for monetary gain. We call on politicians to avoid politicizing security issues in a way that could demoralize our military in their efforts to safeguard the nation and its people,” he remarked.
The ATT convener expressed optimism that the President’s directive would produce positive outcomes, emphasizing that Nigerians should be patient and allow the President up to two years to deliver on his promises.
“Ultimately, our hope is that our appeal to Nigerians to give President Tinubu two years in office before passing judgment is beginning to yield promising results. By the end of that period, we believe Nigerians will have no choice but to commend him for a job well done,” he concluded.
