“Back Tinubu’s Security War: Barau Calls On States, Citizens To Join The Fight”

According to Ireporter Online, the Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as firm, coordinated and sustained actions to address insecurity nationwide. He urged state governments, corporate organisations and citizens to actively support ongoing national security efforts, stressing that tackling the country’s security challenges cannot be left to the Federal Government alone.

Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly, Barau said the President’s commitment is evident and requires collective reinforcement. “Mr President is doing extremely well. His efforts should be complemented by all Nigerians—state governments, private organisations and ordinary citizens,” he stated, noting that insecurity is a national concern that demands shared responsibility.

Barau particularly encouraged states to invest in surveillance technology, intelligence systems and operational support mechanisms to strengthen the work of federal security agencies. He explained that insecurity could be defeated more quickly if every state develops structures capable of monitoring forests, local communities and other vulnerable areas.

He added that when such initiatives are implemented across the country, the impact would be swift and significant.

Describing Tinubu as a leader working tirelessly to secure the nation, Barau referenced the President’s recent decision to cancel his planned trip to South Africa for the G20 Summit to focus on national security—an action he credited with contributing to the rescue of abducted victims in Kebbi State.

Barau maintained that Tinubu is determined to deliver safety nationwide despite inheriting a difficult situation, asserting that with collective support, the challenges can be resolved within a short period. He also disclosed that the Senate leadership will meet with the President to communicate the urgency behind the chamber’s latest resolutions on national security.

On the renewed debate over establishing state police, Barau said the priority should be developing capacity through proper funding, training and equipment rather than focusing on the structure’s name or design. He noted that even federal security agencies require improved resourcing, a process he said the President has already begun.

He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting reforms aimed at boosting policing and internal security. Barau concluded with a call for unity, stressing that the President is doing his utmost and that every Nigerian must contribute to the collective effort.
