The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is currently engulfed in a deepening crisis that shows no signs of resolution. The turmoil within the party has been attributed to several factors, ranging from alleged mismanagement of campaign funds to internal power struggles. This situation has led to increasing frustration among volunteers and party members, while defections to opposition parties continue unabated. Here’s an analysis of the primary issues and their implications:

Allegations of Mismanagement and Corruption

One of the critical issues plaguing the PDP is the alleged mismanagement of campaign funds. Reports suggest that the party’s leadership, particularly at the Dennis Osadebe Avenue, might be involved in last-minute cashing out schemes. This raises questions about the judicious use of the available resources for the upcoming elections. Instead of focusing on a robust electoral campaign, there are claims that some members of the campaign council are diverting funds for personal gain, exacerbating the financial constraints faced by the party.

Leadership and Succession Crisis

Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is purportedly looking for a loyal successor, is reportedly on the final stretch of his own cashing out process. This has led to a significant rift within the party, with different factions vying for control and influence. The deputy governorship candidate’s alleged focus on future political investments rather than the current campaign further complicates matters.
