Betsy Obaseki’s Shameful Dishonesty: Edo People Condemn Bitter Attacks on Gubernatorial Candidates
Edo State is in shock after First Lady Betsy Obaseki’s appalling and baseless mockery of two leading gubernatorial candidates, Monday Okpebholo of the APC and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party. In a desperate attempt to gain support for the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, the First Lady stooped to a new low by falsely insinuating that these respected leaders do not have wives.
What makes this attack even more contemptible is the clear dishonesty and bitterness fueling it. The fact is, there is no proof to support her claims—this is nothing more than a vile attempt to smear the reputations of these candidates. Is this the type of leadership Edo people deserve, where lies and deception are the tools used to gain political advantage?
Betsy Obaseki’s remarks suggest that in her twisted view, the only candidate worthy of respect is Asue Ighodalo, simply because he has a wife. This is not just a disgraceful attack on Okpebholo and Akpata, but an insult to the intelligence of every Edo citizen. The First Lady’s shameful attempt to equate marital status with leadership ability is not only misguided but deeply offensive. It exposes the pettiness and desperation within the Obaseki camp, as they scramble to prop up their candidate with falsehoods and bitterness.
The people of Edo have had enough. They see through the dishonesty and reject the notion that a person’s value as a leader is tied to their marital status. What Edo needs are leaders with integrity, not those who resort to underhanded tactics to elevate themselves. Monday Okpebholo and Olumide Akpata have shown themselves to be men of principle and commitment—qualities that Betsy Obaseki clearly lacks.
As the election draws near, it’s clear that the First Lady’s tactics have backfired, uniting the people of Edo against the kind of politics she represents. The Obaseki administration’s desperation is palpable, and the citizens of Edo are ready to reject it resoundingly at the polls. The disgraceful actions of Betsy Obaseki will not be forgotten, and her attempt to divide the people has only strengthened their resolve to elect leaders who embody honesty, decency, and true Edo values.
