During an address at the district head’s palace in Baga on Wednesday, Governor Zulum stressed the importance of adhering to military-approved farming areas to ensure safety. “I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military,” he stated.

The governor’s visit followed a recent attack by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in Dumba, Kukawa Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of 40 farmers.

Condemning any form of insurgent collaboration as “unacceptable and detrimental” to stability efforts, Zulum emphasized the importance of military and governmental guidelines in ensuring safety and supporting agricultural activities.

While in Baga, Zulum inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation project at Mile 3, praising it as a significant milestone in boosting farming and achieving food security in the region. He highlighted plans to use the irrigated land for cassava cultivation post-wheat harvest, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of food sufficiency and cost reduction in production.

The governor also pledged to enhance reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructure and commended the 101 Special Forces Battalion for their bravery, assuring them of continued state government support.

Accompanied by members of the National Assembly and top government officials, Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming agriculture and restoring stability in Borno State.
