Onanuga, aged 59, who served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, passed away on Wednesday in a UK hospital after battling an illness for over two months.

In a condolence statement, Governor Abiodun described her death as both devastating and a monumental loss for Ogun State and Nigeria. He hailed her as a fearless leader, loyal party member, and dedicated mobiliser who significantly advanced women’s empowerment and worked tirelessly for her constituents’ welfare.

“Her death came as a rude shock to all of us. Ogun State has lost an extraordinary amazon. Her courage and loyalty were exemplary, and her contributions to humanity will never be forgotten. May God grant her eternal rest and her family the fortitude to bear this great loss,” the governor said.

Similarly, Senator Gbenga Daniel mourned the late lawmaker, whom he referred to as a close confidant, trusted younger sister, and an outstanding politician. Daniel described her as a beacon of hope for women in politics and a remarkable difference-maker in her community.

“Ijaya, as she was fondly called, embodied a ‘Can Do’ spirit, inspiring women’s aspirations in Remoland and beyond. Her loss is deeply painful, but we take solace in her remarkable legacy. May her family find the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss,” Daniel said.

The death of Mrs. Onanuga has left a significant void in Remoland and Ogun State, where she was celebrated for her impactful political career and unwavering dedication to public service.
